Annual scientific Meeting 2023

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the RACS Tristate Annual Scientific Meeting to be held this year in the top end, Darwin.

2023 will see the 12th year of our Tristate Meeting, and on behalf of the organising Committee Mark Hamilton (NT), Vineeta Singh (WA) and Bernard Carney (SA), I am proud to announce the meeting will be held at the Darwin Convention Centre in the Northern Territory from 10-11 August 2023.

This year’s theme Trauma, futility and Sustainability will showcase a number of speakers looking at vicarious trauma, road trauma and the Bali Bombing more than 20 years on.  A session on futility will see involvement from our audit of surgical mortalities in an ethical debate and the legal perspective from invited medico-legal experts.  Sustainability will see discussions around workforce planning, retention and recruitment, the sustainability in climate and health from all jurisdictions.

As always, our tristate meeting, is an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, trainees, allied health professionals and industry who so generously support this event. The Conveners have a robust program that will stimulate discussions, encourage deliberations amongst peers, but above all provide a forum for face to face networking.

Our conference will commence with lunch on Thursday 10 August, with an afternoon scientific program at the Darwin Convention Centre.

Following this, an official welcome function will be held at Parliament House. Friday 11 August will see a full day of the scientific program followed by the Conference Dinner at Il Piatto, Mindil Beach, a memorable experience not to be missed with our guest speaker, Tony Thiel, General Manager of Paspaley Pearls.

I along with my Territory colleagues look forward to welcoming you to Darwin in August where the average temperature will be 32 degrees during the day and a pleasant 20 degrees in the evening.
